When using BAR-rates, all properties must establish a so-called base-BAR-container. The base-BAR-container is used to yield the BAR-rates, i.e. when calculating which BAR-level is to be applied on which date. This ensures that the different component lists of various BAR-containers do not affect this calculation. This is especially important in properties working with different BAR-containers that all have a star * in the BAR-definition (without any further differentiation such as *:WEB) but feature different component list.
When yielding, SIHOT refers to the rates in the BAR-Levels of the base-BAR-container and the component list of the base-BAR-container. By including a number of other parameters in the calculation (OTB, history, etc.), SIHOT determines the most favourable BAR-levels for each day. The same levels apply to all other BAR-rates, including those with a specific BAR-definition, such as *:2 or *:WEB.
The base-BAR-container is created by entering a hash # in the field BAR-definition. There can be only one base-BAR-container per property.
For further information on this subject, see section Yield Management.
